The Mystery of the Three Headed Dog by Kali Sura

The town of Larkspur is home to many mysteries. But perhaps the most mysterious mystery of all is that of a three headed dog. Perhaps you'd like to hear the story? It all started the day a stranger arrived to Larkspur. Not interested huh? Well this stranger is the reason the three headed dog was even in the town! You see this stranger was an animal breeder. Not many of those left today but then again this story is 20 years old. Anyway this animal breeder had brought with him a puppy, some plants and some common household liquids like detergent and soap. You're probably wondering where the three headed dog comes in and why I’m telling about puppies and plants and detergents. This is all necessary for the three headed dog’s birth.

You see this animal breeder was also an expert potion maker. Taking the plants and common household liquids, he made a potion that when drunk would make the given baby animal, full grown and harmless. However something went wrong. When the potion maker/animal breeder gave the potion to the puppy to drink, the puppy grew to over 100 feet and became fully grown! This fully grown puppy then sprouted two heads and proceeded to eat the potion maker/animal breeder in one gulp!

The three headed dog went on a destruction course, wrecking anything that came in it’s way and eating any humans it saw along the street! Many humans fled but there was nowhere they could go that would protect them from the jaws of the monstrous creature. It seemed that there was no one brave enough to take on the dog. Even the police were powerless against it. How you may ask? The three headed dog crushed and ate all their tranquilizers, guns and weapons in the police department. It then proceeded to eat up as many police officers as it could fit in it’s mouths. The rest ran away in fear.

I know what your thinking, this is great and all but where's the mystery?!!!! You see just a couple of hours after the dog had started its destruction course it lay dead in the middle of a street. I know inside your head your going WHAT?!!!! How could a dog that was alive and well 2 hours ago be lying dead in the middle of a street now? The truth is we just don’t know. That is the mystery of the three headed dog.

The Haunted House by Kali Sura

In the town of Rosefield, a murder mystery lingers. They say that the old house on Winnipeg Lane is haunted. Legends surround Mrs.Mackpot’s old house. A 76 year old lady who lived alone in the house, her husband having died 4 years earlier from who knows what, many people actually felt sorry for her. That was until the beast came. The story goes that she was in the house one day cooking dinner when she heard a rustle behind her. Turning around she saw a hideous beast, half lion and half tiger. She screamed so loud that half the neighborhood heard her. That was the last they heard of her.

The next day the police arrived to find her dead body lying on the ground and no evidence of the beast having been there. Since then the story has been twisted and turned so much that no one’s really sure how it began or ended. One thing's for sure though, no matter who tells the story one detail has never changed. Nearly all of the versions of the story include a half lion and half tiger beast. Many a man has tried and failed to solve the mystery of who really killed Mrs. Mackpot.

As far as anyone knows Mrs. Mackpot had no relatives and no friends plus the only people who knew her that well at all were her neighbors who had also been mysteriously killed the very same day. 10 years later a young detective by the name of Arnold Mcfinn came to the town of Rosefield to try to see if he could solve the mystery. The folks there muttered to each other:

“If the best detectives and policemen couldn't solve the mystery what makes him think he can?”

“He’s only 13! Who does he think he is Sherlock Holmes?”

“If I were him I would go right back to where I came from and leave this mystery unsolved or who knows what bad luck he might bring to this town if the murder finds out there's another detective after him!”

Arnold however was used to this kind of talk he experienced it wherever he went to solve a mystery, whether it was in his hometown Greenville, his best friend's town Berryville or his mother’s hometown of Huckleberry.

Arnold wasn’t just a regular old detective though he was the best detective this side of London. So on this fine spring day Arnold set off for Winnipeg Lane not knowing what was in store for him. He arrived in front of Mrs Mackpot’s old house and took a moment to look at the hunk of junk in front of him. Mrs Mackpot’s old house which was once the finest house on the street now looked like the wreckage of an old tree.

The roof was caved in, many shingles having fallen out. The front door hung off its hinges and the windows were all shattered, a good sign that some thievery had happened here. Sure enough when Arnold stepped through the front door many expensive furniture and table sets plus some antique relics had vanished from the living room.

Arnold then proceeded to examine the kitchen, the bedrooms and the attic all of which had been trashed as violently as the living room had been been with expensive jewelry and mirrors and dressers having vanished almost into thin air it seemed.

First Arnold examined the place where Mrs. Mackpot had been found dead, the kitchen. He checked every nook and cranny but found not a trace of the murder. As he examined the bedrooms and the attic Arnold didn’t find any trace of the beast that the people so claimed had killed the old woman. Not that he believed these rumors for who had ever seen a beast that was half lion and half tiger in Rosefield?

But as he made the to leave the attic he found tucked hidden inside an old chest a costume of half a lion and a costume of half a tiger. He examined the stitching and found that it was handmade by a person who clearly didn't know how to stitch. So he was right there was no beast just a person wearing a costume!

Ecstatic Arnold then proceeded to search the whole attic but was disappointed as he found nothing. However in Mrs. Mackpot’s bedroom he found tucked behind the dresser was a stack of letters she had written to her favorite author. Apparently she loved his books until he wrote a particularly gruesome one which she disliked so much that she made a review of it on Facebook and it had gone viral. In other words the author lost his job and his money because of Mrs. Mackpot.

An excellent motive Arnold thought. Arnold found his address marked in one of the letters and set off to find the author. He found the author hiding in a secret compartment in his bedroom. He was arrested without a word and Arnold became a hero in the town of Rosefield.

The Witch and the Sorcerer by Kali Sura

Long ago when the mammoths roamed the earth and glaciers covered much of the world there lived a witch named Agri. Agri was jealous of the sorcerer Sadum because he was the was the most powerful being of all time during that era. Agri wished to be more powerful than Sadum and take over his kingdom of Gild. Sadum knowing this had banished her from his kingdom to the land of Glaciers. There Agri had to live in an igloo and endure -190 degree weather. Agri wanted revenge and knew that the only way to gain Sadum’s kingdom was to wage war on it and win it by force. She wasn’t strong enough by herself though for Sadum had a whole army of wizards at his command. So she decided form an alliance with the king of mammoths. She traveled to the Kingdom of Agst and went to King Raga with an offering of lichen.

“Oh wise king! I wish to form an alliance with you. Please accept this offering of lichens as a
peace offering.” she said. “ I am pleased with the gift you have brought me. I will gladly accept
your offer to form an alliance.”

KIng Raga said warmly. Thus Agri gained the mammoths support.

Meanwhile back in his tower the wise sorcerer learned of Agri’s plans. He knew he was the only
one powerful enough to defeat Agri for she was a powerful witch. Though he also knew that
Agri wouldn’t be able to defeat his army of wizards alone he also knew that the mammoths
would be able to. There was only one animal that could defeat mammoths: saber-toothed
tigers! However there was one drawback: saber-toothed tigers were very ferocious,
arge and not friendly to anyone except their own kind. Luckily Sadum had saved their king
once from an avalanche with his magic so he had the saber-toothed tigers support. No one
but he knew about the saber-toothed tiger alliance. Agri however had been there the day the
sorcerer had stopped the avalanche so she knew the saber-toothed tigers would be on his
side. This would mean he would be able to destroy her army of mammoths.

The saber-toothed tigers were the most ferocious animals alive. However they had a weakness that none but she and the tigers themselves knew. The species had been cursed long ago by a sorceress.

The curse stated that when they fought in a war against the mammoths, they would lose!
So Agri satisfied went to wage war with her army on Gild.

The sorcerer used his army of wizards and saber-toothed tigers to attack the mammoths
and Agri. A tough war followed, many mammoths and saber-toothed tigers were killed.

The war went on for 20 years before the mammoths finally managed to defeat the tigers and
wizards. Then Agri and Sadum fought each trying to kill the other with their magic and power.

Finally after a long battle Agri managed to hit Sadum with a death spell and he was killed.

Agri became the ruler of Gild and throughout the days of her rule she became kinder to her subjects and treated all with respect. For she remembered how it felt to be shunned away by the world and have no friends. Thus the kingdom became wealthy and prospered under her reign.

Tornado of life by Kali Sura

The tornado of life had me in its clutches. Memories of good and bad times swirled and twisted around me.

The bottomless pit of time drags me into its depths as I struggle helplessly I see yet some help in the ups and downs of life.

The up and downs of life look on with sadness as if they want to help me but just can’t. Still I struggle as they watch me as motionless as a rock.

The times of despair and sorrow linger and taunt me. The hard and unjust times threaten to drown me as I fight them helplessly.

The anger and fear overwhelm me as I try to keep them at bay. Alas I lose and down I’m pulled into the tornado’s heart.

Then when it looks like all is lost out of the bottomless pit of time and life, there comes the memories of happiness and joy.

Free from the tornado of life at last I look upon my future and promise myself never to go back.

An Interview with Acadia Naylor by Kali Sura

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

A: A videogame designer, a lego set designer or a regular engineer. I would like to be a lego set designer because I love lego’s.

Q: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

A: My strengths are that I’m weird and smart and my one weakness is that I am stubborn.

Q: Out of all the places you’ve visited which one was your favorite and why?

A: Acadia National Park because it has cool rocks and trees and it was created when two volcanos collidied.

Q: Which ride at the Mall Of America was your favorite and why?

A: The Brain Control Ride because you can control the ride by making it go up and down and spin around.

Q: Do you think the Harry Potter books are better than the movies and why?
A: Yes because when you read the books you get a visual representation of the story in your head and the movies sort of crushes it.

Q: If you could visit any place in the entire world where would you go and why?

A: I would go to Germany because they have great food there and because it’s right next to Switzerland where the best chocolate in the entire world is located.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I love ciphering, computer programming, drawing and annoying my friends.

Q: In your opinion do you think the Hungry Games is better than the Harry Potter series?

A: No because Harry Potter includes more magic, its hidden away in a part of the world which invokes the question Is Harry Potter actually real? because there’s no proof he doesn't actually exist.

Q: If you received 1 million dollars what would you do with it?

A: I would use some of it to fund college, some to get cats and I would use the rest to buy legos

Letter To An Editor by Kali Sura

Dear Editor,

Over 3.2 million people get bullied each year. You may think that just because schools have rules that say bullying is not allowed, the problem of bullying is prevented. This is not true! Do you honestly think that just because schools have rules that say bullying is not allowed the bullies will follow these rules? Of course not! I am a victim myself. In fourth grade I was bullied because of my height.

I know from experience that being bullied stinks and that bullies mainly bully people because their hurt or mad or even just jealous. However we can prevent bullying! If we take simple measures such as standing up for the person being bullied we can stop the problem of bullying once and for all! In others words be a buddy not a bully! You may ask how one person standing up for another can stop bullying worldwide. Well if we each stand up to a bully, these acts all add up so that before we know it an entire classroom has helped to stand up against a bully eliminating about 20 problems of bullying once and for all.

One thing you may do is tell a teacher if you see someone getting bullied. Of about the 3.2 million people that are bullied each year, about 90% of them are 4th-8th graders. Nearly all of these incidents could have been prevented if someone would have just had the courage to stand up to the bully and tell them to stop. The worst part is that they will have to live with that horrible memory, just because some kids didn’t have enough courage to stand up to the bully. So once again, be a buddy not a bully! Stand up for what’s right and stop being a bystander! Show the world that bullying can be stopped if one only gathers the courage needed to do it.

Best Wishes,
Kali Sura

Alien Spotted Surfing In Hawaii!!!! by Kali Sura

On Tuesday July 24th an alien was spotted surfing on the big island, “ Saw it with my own eyes! As big as a giant and shaped like a whale it was!” says Ernie Shaft who was out walking when he saw the alien crush 10 streets with one foot. The location of the alien is currently unknown however it was last seen crushing a mountain near the harbor. Seeing all the destruction and damage the alien caused the government sent police to tranquilize the alien and throw him into the ocean. The police found the alien crushing another 20 streets near the harbor and was about tranquilize it when the alien picked up the tranquilizer and crushed it with one hand.

It also picked up 30 policemen and threw far out into the ocean, terrified the remaining
20 police officers fled for their lives. The alien then proceeded to crush 8  more mountains and
flatten 3 woods so that by the end of the day the big island looked like nothing more than a
flat pancake with a few houses remaining. After eating more than 200 humans the alien retired
to the one forest remaining on the big island and slept peacefully.

The survivors fled in a boat to the island of Kilauea where a volcano erupted.
The terrified government surrendered to the alien.
